چکیده

By means of a surface-integral formalism we derive the integral equations for diffuse photon density waves with boundary conditions corresponding to a diffuse–diffuse interface with index mismatch and solve them numerically without any approximation. These numerical results are verified with Monte Carlo simulations for the planar interface case. Since the application of the boundary condition to index-mismatched media is difficult, an approximation that yields very accurate values is found. This approximation can be easily introduced into analytical models, and a study of its limit of validity is shown. We demonstrate with numerical results that the multiple-scattering contribution that is due to surface roughness can be neglected, even when index mismatch is present. © 1999 Optical Society of America [S0740-3232(99)01308-3] OCIS codes: 170.5270, 290.7990, 170.7050, 100.6640.

The pain and gain of DC-based diffuse optical tomography reconstruction---New insights into an old-like problem

For diffuse optical tomography reconstruction, DC-based method outperforms frequency-domain method in background artifacts, at the known cost of increased coupling between absorption and scattering. The differences of these methods diminish when spatial priors are available. ©2010 Optical Society of America OCIS codes: (170.3880) Medical and biological imaging; (170.3010) Image reconstruction t...

Congenital diffuse Melanosis in a father and two sons

Congenital diffuse Melanosis is one of the rarest clinical manifestations of hereditary universal Melanosis and only few cases have been reported all over the world. The presented case is a 54-year-old man who presented to us complaining of erythematous annular lesions on his face and neck since 8 months ago. Diffuse pigmentation of his skin took our attention. According to the patient, d...

A radiative transfer equation-based image-reconstruction method incorporating boundary conditions for diffuse optical imaging.

Developing reconstruction methods for diffuse optical imaging requires accurate modeling of photon propagation, including boundary conditions arising due to refractive index mismatch as photons propagate from the tissue to air. For this purpose, we developed an analytical Neumann-series radiative transport equation (RTE)-based approach. Each Neumann series term models different scattering, abso...

Diffraction tomography for biochemical imaging with diffuse-photon density waves.

The spatial structure of optically heterogeneous turbid media is probed with diffusive light. Projection images are obtained experimentally by deconvolution of the scattered diffuse-photon density waves on a planar boundary by use of a fast Fourier transform. The method is very fast, permitting object localization and characterization in ~1000 volume-element samples on subsecond computational t...

3D Tomographic Reconstruction of an Absorptive Perturbation with Diffuse Photon Density Waves [Accepted JOSA]

A 3D tomographic reconstruction algorithm for an absorptive perturbation in tissue is derived. The input consists of multiple 2D projected views of tissue that is back-illuminated with diffuse photon density waves (DPDWs). The algorithm is based on a generalization of the Projection-Slice Theorem and consists of depth estimation, image deconvolution, filtering, and backprojection. The formalism...
